WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF TURNERS OF LONDON

My turning activities have been temporarily slowed, but I continue to study and research the craft. This crest is from a beautiful book The Wooden Bowl by Robin Wood (no kidding) which traces the history of wooden bowls from earliest artifacts. The Worshipful Company of Turners is a Livery Company of the City of London and sprang from the medieval craft guilds. Although there was a Guild of Turners in 1295, the Royal Charter was not granted by King James I until 1604. Should you have an interest, more information is available at www.turnersco.com/introduc.htm. The site is extensive and includes (among other things) an explanation of the crest's meaning, pictures of exquisite pieces currently on display in London, as well as a history of the Company and its current news. It's very well done.
